The Poem Below

The other day my wife got off the phone, and, referring to the conversation she'd just had, said "We'll have to have tea with Tina." I thought it made a catchy title for a poem.

Tea With Tina

If you have tea with Tina
Be sure to arrive right on time
Because Tina serves tea promptly at four
And she considers tardiness a terrible crime

If you have tea with Tina
Be prepared to stay for a while
Because Tina serves every kind of tea
From Orange Pekoe to sleepy Camomile

If you have tea with Tina
Be sure to wear a top hat and tails
Because Tina is always dressed to the nines
Having studied fashion with the Princess of Wales

If you have tea with Tina
Brush up on the very latest news
Because Tina is always well informed
And she can discuss any topic you choose

If you have tea with Tina
Do not expect greasy manwiches
Because Tina only serves petits fours
And dainty little cucumber sandwiches

If you have tea with Tina
Be sure to say please and thank you
Or Tina will think you're very rude
And you were obviously raised in a zoo

He's Home

Looking a little tired after getting up early, packing, driving 7-8 hours, and having dinner with family and friends.

Welcome home son.

Musings

The lad's best friend came over last night with his girlfriend. They also brought their little dog Bailey, who is a Terrier mix of some kind. What a delightful little guy. He's just a pup so he was playful, rambunctious, and just fun to be around.

The boys have known each other since they were little kids and this fellow, this fine young man, has always been there for our son. Years ago they used to play cars together, and now the fellow has his own car, a snazzy Monte Carlo which he just loves. I remember the day he bought it, he came over to show it to us, then he and the lad went for a ride. Having been that age once I can imagine what kind of ride it was.

While they were at the house we called the lad in New Brunswick and, then and there, over the phone, his buddy told the lad they're coming to pick him up. They're going to leave tonight, stay over Saturday, then drive back Sunday. It will be a long ride but barring any unforeseen circumstances, they're going. Their minds are made up. No changing them.

As far as I'm concrned that's amazing. See, they don't have to do this because we already offered to pick the lad up and he said he'd take the bus. But they're going anyway. They want to take a road trip. And see the ocean. And bring the lad home.

Because they're friends.

I wish I had a friend like that.

Delightful. Now there's a word for you. It's like happy but a bit different because it makes you want to giggle. I'm not supposed to giggle. Kids giggle. And girls. But I've felt like giggling a lot this week. A sunset. A movie. A playful dog. A phrase in the book I'm reading. They're so delightful they make me want to giggle till boogers come out my nose.

It's a neat feeling.

Hairspray - No Spoilers So Read On

We went to see Hairspray last night with a friend and our two girls.

This is without a doubt one of the best movies I have seen in years.

It's funny, happy, upbeat, the music is fantastic and the acting is wonderful. The story is a good one and you'll love the ending. Oh heck, you'll love the whole movie.

There were plenty of kids and teens in the theatre, including our 2 girls, and they loved it as much as the adults did, even if a couple of the jokes were above their heads (the kids, not the teens, they got them just fine).

If it's true that laughter is good for your health, then do your body a big favour and go see this movie. It might just be the best medicine for what ails you. Then go back and see it again for the music. And the dancing. And the wonderful story line. And the great acting. Geez, that makes like 5 times you'll have to see it.

Oh heck, it'll be worth it. We're certainly planning to go again.

Oh yeah, my wife and the princess want the soundtrack too, which is fantastic.

One more thing. You might cry in spots too, but they'll be tears of joy so it's all good.

Musings

So this is my second day back at work after a week off. Things have slowed down a bit so that's nice. The pace was a bit hectic before I left.

We didn't get to Toronto or Niagara Falls after all. The princess was feeling a bit under the weather late last week. The big thing though was that I finally went shopping for new glasses, and man are they frickin expensive ! Oh, I get some money back from my benefit plan but I still have to pay up front first. The last time I shopped for glasses was a couple of years ago, and like everything else, the price of them has gone way up. And I'm not getting anything fancy either, just something that lets me see the world without looking like a dork. The big hit is on the prescription, which in my case is a progressive tri-focal. That means I can't see anything at three distances, or to put it another way, I'm legally blind three times.

Getting older sucks.

On another note, I got lots of sleep last week. I usually get up between 5:30 - 6 a.m. but last week I was rarely up before 9. Needless to say getting up for work yesterday was brutal.

On still another note, the lad might be coming home. Seems things aren't quite working out as planned. We'll see.

And lastly, the sunset. I took this photo last night, and no, I didn't Photoshop it, just zoomed in and snapped it. Because I was shooting into the sun the trees showed up dark, just leaving the colours of the sky, which almost seem to have intensified in the picture. I could have "fixed" it but decided I like it just the way it is.

The Poem Below

Okay, I know it's a wee bit racy, but I just had to write it. I got the idea about a month ago from a book I read. Then one evening I was admiring the sunset when the first stanza just popped into my head.

So there it is.

Summer Love

The setting sun of pink and gold
Is reflected in your eyes
Telling me our story's told
And it's time for last goodbyes

I was just a boy the night we met
You were a woman in full bloom
You showed me things I'll never forget
Enchanting me with your sweet perfume

The wistful smile upon your face
So unlike your loving gaze
Tells me I must leave this place
For it's time we parted ways

I remember well the gentle rain
And your touch more gentle still
The night we sipped sweet champagne
And drank of love till we had our fill

The days are getting shorter now
And summer eves are often cool
I'll shed a tear and take a bow
And go back to playing the fool

I'll think of you when nights are warm
And the softly blowing breeze
Reminds me of the time we rode the storm
Beneath the gently swaying trees

New Bike

Remember that feeling of getting a brand new bike ?

You could race the wind. You were the envy of all your friends. You were the top dog because you had the fastest wheels around.

Guess who got that feeling ?

The Giant Creeping Fungus From Outer Space

My wife and I were sitting having coffee on the patio when she noticed this thing on the wall next to the door. From the side it looked like a fungus or a mushroom but when I got close to it I saw it was this weird looking moth.

Obviously pretty good camouflage. No self-respecting bird is gonna be caught dead eating that.

Still Alive and Kicking

Yep, I'm still around.

Things have been so damn busy lately I'm either too busy or too tired to blog.

I do have a few projects on the go though so don't count me out. I've been working on a poem for a couple of days but I'm struggling with it. I showed it to someone yesterday who liked it but I'm still not satisfied, something's missing. I've also got a couple of story ideas brewing so I'm working on those. And then this morning when I was on the way to work it was quite cloudy, a very threatening sky. That, in combination with this green and black Duster that's been parked around the corner for the last few days got me thinking. There's a story there, I just don't know what it is yet.

On another note, I'm on holidays next week ! Not sure what we're doing yet, we're going to take it one day at a time. We may go to Toronto and Niagara Falls for a couple of days later in the week but otherwise no firm plans.

Oh, hey I did something stupid the other night. I got up in the middle of the night to get a drink. While I was up I figured I'd get the coffee ready so that when I got up in the morning I'd just have to start it. Anyway, the noise woke my wife. So she comes into the kitchen, opens the closet and unloads a load of clothes from the dryer. And I'm thinking "Stop, I don't want to fold laundry. I just came down to get a a drink of water and put the coffee on." But I'm stuck, I have to help out because I woke her up and to leave her folding laundry and go back to bed would be rude.

Crap.

A Peaceful, Easy Feeling

This is our front patio. It was pretty much designed by my wife. I contributed a little talent and some grunt work but it's mostly her creation. This is where I like to sit with a cup of coffee after work and read, or watch the kids, or just plain old relax. I prefer the chair at the very back, near the door (there's another one on the right, hidden behind the tree).

Like the song says, it's a peaceful, easy feeling.

Just An Update

It's very busy at work and I'm tired.

I'll post something real in a few days, maybe the weekend. I'm working on a poem and another story but lack of time and energy are slowing me down a little.
