Officially On Vacation

I had a little wine
And I feel just fine
But by morning I'll be holding my head
And quietly moaning "I wish I was dead"

Anyway, it's one way to start a vacation. See you folks in two weeks.

Cheers.

Walls

If these walls could talk they would tell you of the time a father stood over his son's crib and watched him sleep
If these walls could talk they would tell you of the time a mother watched her son inject insulin and started to weep

If these walls could talk they would tell you of the time an excited little boy hunted for Easter eggs
If these walls could talk they would tell you of the time a little girl played horsie on her daddy's legs

If these walls could talk they would tell you of the time a father taught his daughter how to burp really loud
If these walls could talk they would tell you of the time a boy got accepted to university and made his parents proud

If these walls could talk they would tell you of the time a man sat up all night in pain
If these walls could talk they would tell you of the time a boy went out to dance in the rain

If these walls could talk they would tell you that this is not just a house but a home
And that it has seen joy and sorrow and triumph and defeat and pain and love

All's Quiet on the Home Front

So the nights are starting to get a bit cooler and the sun is rising later and setting sooner. I guess it's mainly the cooler nights that signal the wane of summer. Seems like just a couple of weeks ago that we were getting record high temperatures, in fact it was a few weeks ago. My how time flies !

Not much new around here. Still getting ready to send the lad off to university, and of course the princess is starting school soon, grade 3 to be exact. She's getting a new teacher this year, apparently a very nice fella. My wife met him this summer, so she's looking forward to that. I don't think she's particularly anxious to start though as she's had a pretty good summer so far, made some new friends, had more freedom than previous years, etc.

We'll be on holidays for two weeks starting this Friday so we'll make our annual trek to Toronto, go to Wonderland and stuff. My wife has also checked out some new restaurants so I'm looking forward to that !

Other than that it's been relatively quiet around here. I did put up a new OG logo in the sidebar again so check it out, it's the embroidered look.

Ta ta for now.

Monday Morning Morsels

Sorry I wasn't around the last few days again but things have been rather hectic around the old homestead. Also, as I've said many times, I don't blog as much in the summer, gotta take advantage of the warm weather while we have it.

So the countdown to the lad's departure for university continues. This weekend we went to Kingston for our annual before school clothes shopping spree for him and it struck me several times that we'd be packing all this stuff up in a few weeks when he leaves. Oh yeah, and if you're wondering why we go to Kingston when we live in Ottawa, it's because we went there several years ago and he bought a bunch of clothes at the Bootlegger store. He really liked their stuff and we still don't have a Bootleger store in Ottawa so we go back every year. They know us quite well now and we always get fantastic service.

The princess got some new clothes too so she's she's quite happy as well. It's interesting the difrerence between the two of them. The lad is somewhat introverted and he doesn't like clothes with logos and stuff all over them. He was quite disappointed to find that one of his favourite brands, "Brody", is now putting their logo on most of their stuff and passed on a shirt he liked because of it. The princess on the other hand is very outgoing. She likes clothes that are bright and flashy, and if they have a logo, all the better. The lad and I were musing yesterday that she'll probably be one of tthe popular girls when she's a teen. You know the kind I mean, cute, gets invited to all the parties, lots of boys want to date her, etc. I'm not looking forward to it, believe me !

Well, one more week of reduced hours, then I'm on holidays for a couple of weeks, then when I get back I'm on regular hours again. I have a feeling it's going to be tough to work a full week after being off for so long and working reduced hours too but it really was for the best, as I'm feeling more rested than I did a couple of months ago.

The pic is another grad photo that I played with (gotta get a digital camera, need more photos !!!). I wasn't going for any particular look, just playing around with blend modes and opacities and stuff (the further along I get in my Photoshop reading, the more stuff I try). A few people suggested I change the rainbow background and border to plain white, and I may try that. This was just me having fun with colour !

Anyway, that's all for now so cheers and take care.

One Month to Go

It's Friday and a long weekend, can't get much better than that.

After several days of blistering heat and humidity so high it made breathing difficult, the weather has finally eased up a bit. Yesterday was still pretty hot but at least it wasn't unbearable, and I actually managed to sleep last night without waking up drenched in sweat every hour.

I mentioned last week that the lad was going off to university soon. Well, it's exactly one month from today. On Sept 4th. we'll be moving him into residence and he'll start his new life. Now it's getting way too real for me . As much as I wish him luck I'm going to miss him terribly, and the closer it gets the more I want to tell him he can't go. The weird part is you spend years raising your kids and encouraging them to get a good education so they can make something of themselves but when it comes time for them to go you realize that you aren't any more prepared than they are for the emotional hit you're going to take. And hey, while they'll certainly miss you they'll be busy with new classes and making a ton of new friends whereas we parents are still going to the same old jobs every day and probably not making a whole lot more friends than we have already so I think it's harder on us than it is on them !

Ah well, I can only wish him the best, I'm sure he'll be fine. I just wish I could say the same for myself.

On another note, ants are indistrious little creatures aren't they ? They communicate with each other, they each do their assigned jobs, they run around the house.

Run around the house ???

Yep, we had an ant infestation. Not big ones, little wee ones not much bigger than the tip of a pencil but they moved in a few weeks ago and have been making themselves at home in our family room ever since so yesterday my wife insisted I throw them out coz they were behind in their rent. So after heated negotiations, after which they refused to cough up the dough, I was forced to wage chemical warfare upon them. Too bad really, they were very quiet and well behaved.

The photo is of the kids of course, and was taken at the lad's grad in June. It's also on my desktop. My daughter chose the background colours. I was gonna make them green but she said they wouldn't match the wall behind them. She's just like her mother. :)
