Sunday Morning Musings
Okay, so who said Sunday could come around so fast again ? Seems the last one was only yesterday but here we are a week later.
Anyway, tomorrow is Halloween so that's cool. My wife and the princess are at the store buying the last few goodies for tomorrow so I have about 10 minutes to spare. We're gonna carve our pumpkin tonight because we've all been too sick to do it before now. The princess has been bugging us to do it for the last couple of days but neither I nor her mother have had the energy. Ah well, it'll get done, it always does, we do whatever we have to for our kids eh ?
Speaking of pumpkins, my wife mixed up some pumpkin spice with non-dairy creamer a few weeks ago, you know the stuff, the powder that comes in the big jars. My son and I are addicted to it now, it's great. And I'm a coffee lover who normally doesn't like flavoured coffees. You gotta get it in just the right proportions though, I think she uses about a teaspoon in a couple cups of the creamer.
OMG, shades of Martha Stewart. Next thing you know I'll be making napkin rings out of toilet paper rolls.
Hmmm ...
Hey, I just realized I never told you folks about the bat and since tomorrow is Halloween what a great time to do so.
One night this summer the lady next door showed up at our place and said she had a bat in the house and as her husband was away could I come over and try to get it out.
Well, I being the gentleman I am and wanting to impress the neighbour lady because, well, I enjoy that sort of thing, said sure. So I went next door, yes, my wife was home, she came too. What I would do this sort of thing if she wasn't ? Anyway, I went next door and upstairs to her son's room where the bat was. I opened the door and sure enough there it was, this huge beast about the size of an eagle, well, maybe a little smaller but vicious looking (okay, okay, it was small and didn't look vicious at all) flying around the room. It was just going around and around, obviously looking for a way out.
I had brought my bat-catching tools, which consisted of a pair of leather gloves and a broom.
The first thing I tried was to open the window and turn the light out in the hope that it would just fly out the window but instead it just started making bigger circles until it was almost flying into my face so I quickly turned the light back on.
Then I tried shooing it out the window but it just kept flying past me, barely missing my face a few times.
Finally I put the gloves on and, after a few vain attempts, managed to swat it out of the air, then picked it up and let it out the window.
I have to admit it was actually fun. Really, I had a blast because I've never been so close to a bat before. It did try to bite me when I picked it up but the gloves I was wearing are long, heavy gloves that guys on railroads use. My dad gave them to me years ago and they're still in fine shape even though I've used them many times for yard work. If you had to buy them they'd probably cost a pretty penny.
Anyway, that's how you catch a bat. In case you ever get one in your house. Or were just curious.
Notice the new colours ? I uploaded some pictures to my host's server too and I'm gonna get em on this week. Should be fun.
Anyway, that's it for another Sunday folks. Cheers and Happy Halloween.

Not Feeling So Good
I've been neglecting my blog for the last few days and I really hate that.
Unfortunately the entire family is sick right now, my wife being the worst off. She had blood work done a few days ago and it showed a very low iron count, which explains why she's felt so lousy lately.
Anyway, just wanted to update things in case anyone is still dropping by the tree house so you wouldn't think I'd died.
I'll get back to writing in a few days but for the time being family is the priority. Besides I don't feel like writing when I'm sick anyway, it takes all the fun out of it.
In the meantime I'm playing around with design ideas. Stay tuned, and if anybody knows of any good tutorials on blog design let me know.
I'll also do some visiting and commenting next week as a few people have been to the tree house lately and I haven't had time to return the favour.

Sunday Morning Musings

Is it Sunday already ?
The week has flown by. My wife isn't feeling well so I've had to do a little extra around the house. Not that I don't normally contribute, I mean every man does right ?
Right ?
Okay, whatever. It's amazing how time flies when you're doing more than usual. Also, I had to work for a few hours yesterday, well, attend a training session, so that pretty much killed my Saturday. That's also why I haven't blogged for a couple days, we weren't allowed to get near our PC's during the training. Man, it's amazing how much you miss it, I swear I was going through withdrawal.
Ah well, that's life.
The princess has a birthday party this afternoon. Yes, she got invited to one, not the one I posted about a few weeks ago, this is for one of the boys in her class, which is just fine by her, she's been talking about it all week.
Friday night we went to a parent-children dance at her school and that was fun, we both had a great time.
OMG, this is starting to sound like a diary post. Must be because I'm in a rush. I have about another five minutes then I have to get off the computer and get the princess ready for the party.
Oh hey, here's something interesting. I have a recurring dream about flying. Yeah, I've dreamed I can fly ever since I was a kid but the weird part is I can only get 6-7 feet off the ground. I'm fast but I can't go very high.
What does that mean ?
One more thing, the redesign. I've been talking about it forever but it's been stalled for a while, with very good reason. Anyway, I'm going to try and finish it myself. I'm not real good at this stuff so I'm going to need a bit of help but I know a few people so I'll see what I can do. Also, I already have a head start as Jersey Girl made me some images to work with. I'll probably do it a bit at a time because if I try to change everything all at once I'll fry my blog for sure, so look for little changes over the next while as I incorporate things.
That's the princess up there. Do you think she needs a reshoot ?
Update. I didn't get to finish this post this morning because I ran out of time. The princess went to the party and she had a great time, and we just finished dinner, steak, my favourite.
Cheers, and have a great week folks.
Something else. PureMood asked me if I could add her to my trusted commenters list so she doesn't have to go through all those hoops every time she wants to say something nice about me. ;-)
I tried using the MT trusted commenters function but it doesn't work. There is however a plugin that can be used so I'll add it over the next few days, if I can figure out how, only plugins I know about make the house smell pretty.

More Random Thoughts
The other day I was on the bus and saw adds for condoms and a teen pregnancy help line side by side.
The condom add showed a young, happy couple who looked like teenagers and said the condoms come (no pun intended) in bright happy colours, which you could tell from the smiles on their faces because they had these big grins, like the cat who swallowed the canary (oops, another unintentional pun). Okay they were cartoons but that's probably because they couldn't get any real teens to pose for the add because what teen wants to tell his parents he's the condom spokesperson. Your friends might think it's cool but mom and dad ? I don't think so.
And next to this add was the one for the teen pregnancy help line, which didn't have a picture, just a few lines about unwanted pregnancies and how they can be devastating and there are people here to help you.
So I started wondering what the message was here.
Have fun but wear a condom or you'll have to call the help line ?
You're already pregant ? Well, next time tell him to wear a condom, maybe a nice red one.
Have fun, just don't get screwed ? (damn, another pun)
Or maybe the guy putting up the adds just had a weird sense of humour, either way it kinda sents out a mixed message eh ?
We're supposed to go for a customer service certification course this week. I think I have customer service pretty well down pat but it couldn't hurt. One of the guys called the company giving the course to schedule his test and the person couldn't schedule anything so she referred him to the web site but he didn't have the access code and she couldn't give it to him so he was out of luck.
That's great advertising for the company don't you think ?
It's getting cold so I've started transferring from the bus to the train in the morning because even a few blocks in this weather is too much. Anyway, my train stop is called Bayview. There's no bay there, not even a lake or a pond. Sometimes the water drips from the overpass when it's raining and makes a puddle and in the winter it freezes and makes a little wee skating rink but that's it. Unless they're referring to the loading bays in the industrial area few blocks away, you can definitely see those.
One last thing. A friend from work made a really neat dragon from wire and steel pads and stuff, it took her several months. It's really fantastic so I'm going to write a story about a dragon and use one of the pictures in the story. I should have it some time next week.
Quick update re: the blog. You can leave comments but I may not be able to approve them for a bit as the coments approval section is down right now. It's a problem with my host server and he's doing his best to resolve it.

Cleaning House
No, it's not a mommy post, not that there's anything wrong with that.
I figured out the problem I was having viewing my blog in Firefox was due to junk on the computer. I'm usually pretty good at keeping stuff off, I run several anti-spyware apps but I've been lazy about it the last few months and with 4 people using the machine there was bound to be some crap on it.
Anyway last night I gave it a thourough cleaning, ran Adaware, Spybot, antivurus, checkdisc, and defrag.
This morning I turned it on and instead of going "yeah, yeah, hold your horses, can't you see I'm busy here ?" it sat right up and went "yes sir, I'm ready sir, just tell me what you want done."
So I turned it off again and went and had a coffee, that was just too much enthusiasm for me at 6 o'clock in the morning. Maybe when I get home I'll purposely download some spyware again because now the freakin thing is scaring me.
Seriuosly though if you ever need any help with this kind of stuff check Castlecops out. The link is in the sidebar too. They do a great job and I'm happy to recommend them, especially since I know people there. They also have a bunch of stuff you can download to protect against and clean out the nasties.
Plus they're nice folks.
I had a thought earlier but I forgot it was so I can't tell you. Too bad, it was funny. Oh well, maybe I'll tell it to you tomorrow. Or maybe I'll never remember it and have to tell you something else instead, I don't know, I'm like that sometimes.
So I guess I'll go now because that's pretty much it, I have nothing else today, guess I'm brain dead from last night.
Oh hey, some people just started decorating the office for Halloween so that's cool.
One more plug, I love this blog, it's on the blog roll too and I featured it in This is Good a few weeks ago. Go have a look.

Sunday Morning Musings
Is it bed time yet ?
I've gotten into a very bad habit that's wreaking havoc on my sleep time.
Seems lately, lately being the last couple of months, if I wake up at night to go to the bathroom or to change beds with the princess because she wants to sleep with her mom, I don't go back to bed right away. Instead I sneak down to the family room and play on the computer for a couple of hours.
Last night the princess came in around midnight so I came down here and puttered on the computer until almost 3 a.m. This morning I could barely get up.
Is this normal behaviour ? Am I the only person in the world who does this ? Is there a cure for this behaviour ?
Help me out here people, I'm desperate !!
Capn Platy made me some Rimz so now I have to get em on here. Of course being the computer whiz that I am (NOT) I can't get the background to blend with the sidebar, so I was playing with my new free trial version of photoshop elements last night trying to figure this out, without success.
I'll get it, I'm like a dog with a bone when it comes to this stuff. A weary old dog but a tenacious one.
Like Old Yeller. Remember him ? You don't ?
Crap, I guess that was before your time.
The princess had her school picture taken this week but she's not happy with it so she wants a reshoot. Can you believe that, seven years old and she not only knows what a reshoot is but actually wants one.
When I was her age we didn't get reshoots. Heck, we didn't even know what they were.
"A reshoot son ? Yeah, that's when daddy missed that big moose and it got really ticked and charged him so he had to reshoot it."
I'd put her picture up here but she'd probably see it and get upset. Maybe I'll put it up in a few days when she's forgotten all about it.
You wanna know a good way to start the day when you're tired and unenergetic ?
Put on some Rolling Stones and listen to those guys belt out some rock and roll. "Start Me Up", or "Street Fighting Man" will get your day off to a fine start.
Somebody mentioned ear worms the other day, songs you can't get out of your head all day. See if you can get those ones out !
Anyway, that's it for another Sunday. Take care, have a great week, and rock on.
Update - as usual, I was trying to do something dumb re: the Rimz. They're just fine, now I just have to get em on.

The Rocking Chair
Harry walked out of the house, put the bucket with the cold beer on the porch, and sat in the rocking chair on the right. The one on the left was Jake's.
"It's gonna be a scorcher Jake, good thing I've got cold beer."
Jake said nothing, he just rocked.
"My hip tells me we're gonna get a little rain though."
No response from Jake, he just kept rocking.
"Beer's good today. I believe I'll have another. None for you eh ?"
Jake rocked on and on.
"Damn racoons got in the garbage cans again last night. What a mess, took me an hour to pick it all up."
Jake went right on rocking.
"Man I'm thirsty today. Maybe I'll have one more."
Jake rocked.
Halfway through his third beer Harry's head started to nod and he soon fell asleep.
He dreamed of Jake. And the hospital. And the funeral.
He woke up about an hour later and looked over at Jake's chair. It was no longer rocking. Jake was gone.
But he'd come by to keep Harry company like he'd done every afternoon for the last five years. Just like he'd said he would do until Harry joined him.
It's nice to have such a good friend Harry thought.

Leave the Kids Out of It
Yesterday my daughter came home a bit sad because a girl in her class handed out the invitations to her birthday party and the princess wasn't invited. The girl told her she didn't have any room for all her friends so had to make a choice to leave somebody out.
I might have believed this excuse if it wasn't for the fact that her mother and my wife had a blow out way back when and rarely speak to each other anymore. No, I'm not going into it, it doesn't matter what happened, that's not the point.
What is the point is that the girls have been friends for a long time but ever since this incident they don't have play dates any more and the princess doesn't get to go to her birthday parties.
The princess did invite this girl to her birthday party a few months ago because she really wanted her there and we said fine, she's your friend, you want to invite her, it's okay with us.
Now, I'm usualy pretty easy going about stuff like this, I give people the benefit of the doubt. In other words, when she wasn't invited last year, for exactly the same reason I was willing to believe it.
But not this time.
The girls are close at school and the princess adores her. I simply cannot believe that for 2 years in a row she must have told her mother to cut the princess out so she could invite someone else instead, especially since a couple of the kids that were invited are classmates she rarely plays with.
Anyway, we'll take her out that day, maybe invite another friend over so she can have some fun and forget that once again she wasn't invited to a party she was really looking forward to.
And if I'm wrong I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time and it won't be the last.

T & A
Now that I have your attention, it stands for turkeys and anniversaries.
Another Thanksgiving/Anniversary weekend has come and gone.
Yep, that's right, my wife and I got married on Thanksgiving weekend 19 years ago. Makes it easier to remember that way. Not that I would ever forget anyway because men never forget anniversaries.
Well, there was that one time but that doesn't count because ... well ... uh ... something came up ...
Just kidding.
We went to grandma's (that's my wife's grandmother) for dinner on Sunday. She's a great cook, as are all grandmothers so it was a treat as usual.
Hey, I just realized that I wrote a Thanksgiving post last year and our biggest concern then was that our son, who had been recently diagnosed with diabetes, was going to have his first big family dinner and we were a bit worried about his blood sugars going high and how much insulin he would need but in the end it all worked out. And in case you're wondering, yes, we do feed him at home; grandma just likes to serve big portions. And seconds. And dessert. You know what I mean.
It worked out then and it worked out again this time, sort of. This year we forgot his insulin at home so it was a scramble to get him some so he could get through until the next day, but as I said, it worked out, and a good time was had by all.
Yesterday we went out for dinner and we took the kids with us because what the heck, they enjoy it and my wife and I can get out alone some other time. Yes, we actually still do that once in a while. Not often, but once in a while. Anyway, we ate at a local restaurant and it was fun and we weren't out too late because it was back to school and work today.
So now the countdown to Halloween is on, then before you know it Christmas will be upon us.
Yeah, time flies at this time of year.
Anyway, that's it for now, talk to you folks again soon.

Sunday Morning Musings
First a maintenance issue.
If you’re viewing this in Firefox you might not see the tree house graphic in the banner or any other images. I’ve managed to muck them up but I’m not sure how. I’ll fix them but it probably won’t be today or tomorrow as today is Thanksgiving and tomorrow my wife and I celebrate 19 years of marriage. If you see them then great, they fixed themselves, otherwise switch to Internet Explorer for a few minutes.
I mentioned today being Thanksgiving, and in fact the family is going to grandma’s later for dinner, turkey with all the trimmings and pumpkin pie for dessert. You can’t beat that. And tomorrow being our anniversary, we’ll get out to a restaurant for dinner.
But what I really wanted to talk about today was friendship and how friends are always there waiting for you.
Sometimes you get so involved in something that you lose sight of the things that really matter, like your friends. And when you realize what you’ve done maybe you think that your friends will be angry at you, as they certainly have a right to be, after all you’ve deserted them haven’t you ?
So you come back, hat in hand, asking forgiveness, not sure you’ll get it, you certainly don’t deserve it, and they surprise you by saying yes, you’re forgiven, we’re here for you, the door is always open.
And you learn something about friendship. You learn that real friends don’t abandon each other; they make an effort to stay in touch no matter what’s going on in their lives.
So to my friend, the one to whom I said a few months ago “I take my friendships very seriously”, then walked away, thanks for waiting for me.
Have a great week folks, especially you my good friend.
A little update re: the viewing issue, now it's the other way around, the images show up in FF but not in IE.
It's gonna be one of those days.

Tag, You're It
Having been tagged by Stacie, I went in search of my 23rd post, 5th line.
I was playing around with trackbacks that day, trying to figure out how they worked and I somehow managed to track something back to my own blog, I think, I don't know, maybe I did it right and just didn't understand the concept back then.
Anyway the post was about how I had tracked myself back to myself and I came up with the following line to illustrate what I had done.
"Sort of like a jungle guide leading the great white hunter through the jungle and back to the hunter's camp where the hunter shoots the guide's pet elephant."
I thought it was a pretty apt comparison.
So here are the rules:
1. Go into your archive
2. Find your 23rd post.
3. Find the fifth sentence (or closest to).
4. Post the text of the sentence in your blog along with these instructions.
5. Tag five other people to do the same.
I'm picking on:
Liz
Mama Mouse
PureMood
Joe
Ruby

The Killing Ground
This is a true story, I didn't make up a word of it. Of course it all happened several years ago.
When I was a kid we lived in a small town in Nacimiento, Chile for a few years.
All the gringos, the non-native folk if you prefer, lived in the same section of town, the one with actual houses rather than shacks built on the floor.
The town's supply depot/work building, whatever, the place towns store their equipmment and supplies, was near our house.
This being a poor South American town it wasn't a fancy building with siding and a paved lot and stuff, it was a large ramshackle wooden building that looked like it had been standing for a hundred years.
At night the city usually left a light on in there, and sometimes the moon reflected the windows, giving the place a spooky air, like something out of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
And that's what it was.
Yeah, sure, our parents would tell us that it was just a storage shed but we kids knew better. We could see people in there at night and hear the screams that tore the night's frail fabric of sanity to shreds. And in the morning, the wheelbarrows they took out of there weren't full of cement and shovels, they were full of body parts.
We also had an old brick factory in town, one with huge ovens to bake the bricks, in fact us kids used to play hide and seek in there on weekends because the place never ran on weekends.
And the ovens was where they burned all the body parts when they weren't baking bricks.
We knew that because we were kids and we knew stuff our parents didn't know.
Just like kids everywhere.

This is Good
I decided to change the title of this ongoing post from "Now This is Good" to just "This is Good."
Why ?
Well, I wasn't sure how people were reading it. Were they thinking "yeah, I agree, it is good" or were they thinking "so it was crap before OldGuy edited it but now it's good ?", which was not my intention.
Also I figured now was as good a time as any to do it.
So without further ado I give you:

Good Day
Have you ever felt content ?
Not "Oh my God, I won the lottery and met the guy/girl of my dreams all in the same week and now I'm so incredibly happy I could just die" but just "life's okay, I have a family, a job, a roof over my head, a cup of coffee in my hand and I'm just relaxing on the patio in the sunshine ?"
Yeah, you know where I'm going with this.
Yesterday was another gorgeous day so I took the afternoon off. The boss didn't mind, in fact she'd already reminded me that I still had some vacation time to use up so it was almost fate that the weather was fine, as fine as paint as my favourite author would say (Stephen King for those of you who didn't know that).
Anyway, I went home, made coffee and sat outside on the patio again. Our street is a dead end so it's usually pretty quiet but I'm rarely there in the middle of a week day so I didn't how how quiet it can really be. Anyway, coffee in hand I just sat and enjoyed the peace and the warmth for an hour then went in and had a little nap. Later I picked my daughter up from the school bus and we played outside for a bit.
In the evening my wife and I and some friends went to our favourite comedy club again and we laughed until we cried, When we got home we stood outside and chatted for a bit then it was off to bed.
Not a bad day really, it could have been a hell of a lot worse. And I think I needed it. See, after the craziness in the neighbourhood of a few weeks ago and some other heavy stuff that was threatening to put a hurt on my soul it was nice to feel that way again.
Oh yeah, those are my kids up there. It's one of those picture booth things they got done on the princess's 7th birthday. They look happy.
One last thing. Stacie, I'll do your meme tomorrow.

Please Don't Feed the Squirrels
Well, isn't that what it says at the bottom of the page ?
I was sitting outside having my coffee after work tonight when I noticed the squirrels were unusually active.
No, not the ones in the tree house, the ones in the neighbourhood. Yeah, we have squirrels around here and they're always in the trees and the yard and such but there seemed to be more of them than usual tonight. A couple of them even ran across our patio, getting much closer than they normally would, and I noticed they kept going to the neighbours place, after which I could hear leaves rustling.
Curiosity got the better of me so I peeked around the corner to see what was going on.
Turns out our neighbours had put some corn stalks around their patio as fall decorations and the squirrels had discovered them and were having a feast of corn, munching merrily away.
It was fun to watch the little guys, especially since they don't usually come that close. It felt like I was in the tree house.
Anyway I composed a little ditty in their honour:
Little black squirrel sitting in the tree
Please don't run and jump on me
My legs are slow and my heart is weak
If you land on my head I will surely freak
Go back to storing winter food
I don't want to play, I'm not in the mood
One more thing and we'll get along fine
Spit them out, those nuts are mine

Walk on the Other Side
I walked that last little stretch to work again this morning because as I've previously mentioned, it's going to get cold soon so I'm taking advantage while I can.
It occured to me as I got to the street that I always walk down that I almost always walk on the same side so this morning I decided to cross to the other side.
And guess what ?
I saw some stuff I hadn't noticed before.
Now, you're probably thinking what's the big deal. Well, it is a big deal.
I mean, think about it. We almost always take the same route to work, to the store or whatever and we always see the same things. Nothing new, same old same old, and sometimes we actually stop noticing things because we aren't really looking anymore.
Now, I have no choice but to take this street when I walk because it's the only one that gets me to work on time but just changing sides really made a difference today.
See, I left home in a bit of a blue funk today, in fact that's the other reason I chose to walk, because it almost always makes me feel better.
Anyway, this particular street is the Italian part of town, with Italian restaurants and bakeries and bistros and it's really quite a nice walk, but of course I'd already been down it yesterday so what was there to see right ?
Well, I saw a lovely garden with bright yellow flowers, don't know what kind, I'm not good at that. An old man running as quickly as he could down the street, was he trying to catch a bus, late for his morning coffee with his buddies ? Several beautiful murals dedicated to the Italian families that have settled in this area and contributed to it's growth. One mural showed a large family but no business name so I started to wonder what they had done, have sons and daughters who went on the become famous, sing at weddings, take in children off the street ? It was fun to try and guess, maybe I'll actually take the time to find out.
So there you have it. Sometimes you just have to walk down the other side of the street to perk up your day.
Try it some time.

Just Walkin and Talkin
I like to wear my red running shoes
And stroll down the avenue chasing the blues
The mist on the ground is soft and white
And the sun in the sky golden and bright
I see trees with leaves of luscious green
And a hint of the brightest orange I’ve seen
A yellow paper box catches my eye
And standing next to it a black one I spy
A mannequin in mauve strikes a fetching pose
And in a garden I stop to smell a pink rose
I hope you enjoyed our lovely walk
And our little chat, our friendly talk

Sunday Morning Musings
A friend of mine and I took our daughters swimming today. Later we came back to our place so the girls could play and we ordered pizza.
My friend is recently seperated and at one point we were talking about our girls (we meaning he, me, AND MY WIFE) and how grown up they were getting and he asks "Did you see the pretty young blonde girl at the pool, the tall one with the great figure who was talking to her equally good looking friend".
And I'm thinking "Don't ask me that, what are you man, nuts ?" But now I have to answer the question so I pretend to think about it for a while like I'm not sure who he means and finally I casually ask "The one in the black bikini, it was black right ?"' and he says yes. So he says that's what our girls will look like some day.
Then he asks "Did you notice they were in the hot tub when we were too ?" and I want to shout "DO YOU SEE MY WIFE SITTING THERE" but instead I answer no I didn't notice and go on to praise my wife's choice of pizza toppings.
My wife wants to paint again. Actually, not just paint, do a little renovating.
I hate doing this stuff because for one I'm no good at it and for two I'm no good at it and for three I'm no good at it.
Plus it sucks.
I blame all the home renovation shows for this. When I was growing up they didn't have these shows and my mom never bugged my dad to paint, she just left him alone and maybe every couple of years they'd do one room and that was it. But now women want crown moulding and fancy fireplace trim and all kinds of things and it's because they see that stuff on television.
So I'd like to see a renovation show where everything turns out wrong. You know, some couple tries to renovate the kitchen and the cupboards end up crooked and the plumbing doesn't work and the walls look like they were painted by Picasso.
Then I could say "See, you really can screw this stuff up, so how about we just let it be okay ?"
Martha Stewart dyed her hair red. I don't know if it's a long lasting dye or not but anyway she was on some show the other night and there it was, red. She looked like a 50 year old hooker.
The Canada Geese have been heading south for the winter. I wonder if when they get to the US border they go "honk, eh", "honk, eh" "honk, eh" so the Americans know they're Canada Geese and not terrorist geese from some other country.
Of course, by next year the US will require even Canadians to have passports and since geese can't get one they probably won't be allowed in anymore, they'll just have to stay in Canada all winter and freeze their asses off like the rest of us.
Anyway, enough of that, I gotta get back to bed because I'm writing this in the very early morning, like 2 a.m. because we've got a busy day ahead. No, not painting, the girls are getting together again.
But this time I'm telling my friend ahead of time not to mention pretty girls in front of my wife.
Because I'm on the couch tonight.
Have a great week folks.
I had to add a little update, two really.
First of all, the girl's funeral was this weekend, Jennifer, the one who was murdered. A very sad day for her family no doubt.
Second, it looks like Indian summer is here. For those of you who don't know what Indian summer is (that would be everybody not living in Canada and the northern US maybe ?), Indian summer is when you get that last little blast of warm weather before fall settles in for good.
See, every year it starts getting a little chillier in late September-early October, and the leaves start to change colour and all that other stuff.
Then, right around this time you get a little spell of warm weather again. It might be for 2-3 days, sometimes as much as a week, but usually no longer, and when it's over, that's it until next summer.
Some people, like my neighbours, take advantage of this little respite to spend another couple of days at the cottage. Others, like myself, clean the garage so the car can be put in it over the winter.
Whatever people do, they know it's their last chance.
Tomorrow I think I'll take the princess to the park after work, enjoy the weather a bit.
